There will be an In-Class Essay Tuesday (don't worry, I'm not checking the binder--you may want to use it for the essay).

Remember that Tuesday's tutorial is open for AP Students only. We will be watching a movie and celebrating the fact that you have survived AP English thus far!
And I found that great video on Huck Finn and Mark Twain. If you are enjoying the book and want more insight or not particularly enjoying and want to appreciate it more so reading it is less painful, you may want to check this out: It's your guys' favorite TA, EUGENE KIM :^)
Having trouble getting points in the writing category? Need help and an opportunity to raise your grade? Well, fear not, for Ms. Jankowski has kindly provided the chance to get FREE POINTS, as long as you attend the College Workshop that the counselors are holding in the CRC. If you haven't checked the gradebook yet, there is a 10 point assignment in the writing category. There will be workshops starting today (Wednesday), Thursday, and Friday during tutorial. Try to go to the one that you're called in (space might fill up), but if you were absent, then feel free to go to the next available session. There will be an exit ticket at the workshop, which will be provided by the counselors (hopefully). Fill that out and bring it to Ms. Jankowski whenever you can, but it has to be by next Tuesday. Remember, this is an actual assignment, NOT extra credit. Please remember that you need to read Bartleby the Scrivener answer questions on this text by Thursday--some students seemed surprised by this assignment but it is on the calendar. I have uploaded the Melville questions to the Forms and Docs section.
Looking over the calendar, I feel that you all have too much work. So I'm instituting the following changes:
1. I'm removing "Resistance to Civil Government" by Thoreau from the Romantic lit assignments (you do not have to answer the questions nor will this piece be on the Romanticism test). 2. You now have an option for the extra credit activity. You can continue with the current assignment (read Scarlet Letter, take the test on November 14 during tutorial and then if you pass the test with a C, complete a creative project). OR you can read "Resistance to Civil Government" by Thoreau, show up to tutorial at the cafeteria on November 14th and write a short piece about how Thoreau uses rhetorical strategies to support his purpose. This means you will need to read the excerpted essay prior to November 14th, identify three or so rhetorical strategies and Thoreau's purpose. There will be no test or any supplementary assignments for the Thoreau choice and the amount of extra credit given will be the same no matter which you do. Plus with Thoreau, you will have completed the extra credit at the end of tutorial on the 14th. 3. The Out-of-Class Chantal McStay Essay is due on November 13th. 4. Please show me that you picked up Huck Finn by Thursday the 9th. For those of you scheduled to go to the college presentation on Tuesday, Ms. Diatta has kindly agreed to reschedule your time so you can take the extra credit test. If you are scheduled for Tuesday, I will have a new time for you tomorrow.
I have moved the Out of Class Essay to Monday November 13th so that you have two weeks to work on it.
